I have returned to the post after a 12 month secondment and because of some specialty structural changes it has meant that I needed to adapt to a complete new way of working. Although the principles are the same regarding the monitoring of performance targets, I am now looking after only one specialty but am more involved in the operational groundwork i.e creating capacity to fit demand and liaising closely with clinicians to identify their availability to undertake extra capacity. I am also very much involved in the inpatient and outpatient pathways and have been able to understand how they are very much co dependant on a patients NUH experience. I am also a line manager for 7 members of staff and have undertaken all of the HR duties required of me such as PDR's, Returns to work interviews etc... This role has given me a real understanding of the groundwork required to run a service and has enabled me to understand where problems arise and therefore how these problems, with the right resources, could be addressed. Show less I was one of two project leads in the theatre rightsizing project looking at theatre efficiency within NUH. The project was trust wide and involved stakeholders from all levels of the theatre utilisation process. I used the trusts project management 5 step approach. The project looked at standardising the way we planned and reviewed weekly operating theatre lists. A Standardised, formal weely theatre productivity meeting is now present in all 19 surgical specialties. The benefits that have been realised from the project include:Increase in elective casesIncrease in session utilisation In-session utilisation improved Active leadership and accountability from both disciplines. More robust communication between theatres and specialtyMDT working together to achieve more efficient and effective theatre utilisation. By undertaking this project I have become a stronger leader and have gained confidence in all areas of project management. I have gained an extensive knowledge of the whole trust and understand the differences they face. I worked very closely with the Frankly Covey Finance leadership coaches to motivate and inform directorates of their Specialties potential income generation through better use of their theatres. The last 5 years of my career has been in a management role overseeing 3 specialties, managing staff, change management and performance management. Show less The position of Pathway Manager for the Head and Neck Directorate. I was responsible for ensuring that all patients accessing services within the Head and Neck Directorate, are treated in accordance with national and local waiting time targets. I attend the weekly trust Performance review meetings, where I am required to report all breaches and issues throughout the 3 specialties of Head and Neck with regards to 18 weeks Referral to treatment, Stage of Treatment and cancelled operations. I support all three Head and Neck Assistant General Managers with performance reports and ensure that they are kept up to date with any problems or issues that may arise. Show less
