Throughdiscipline and determination, I have maintained a first class honours degree in every year of my studies. In my final year, I conducted a research project with the title “Development of a Synthetic Carbohydrate HIV-1 Vaccine Candidate” within the Scanlan group. This project involved the synthesis of biologically relevant disaccharides starting from commercially available sugars. I gained valuable synthetic and analytical experience making the target molecules, and I presented my work through a thesis and a viva to a panel of Trinity academics. My Medicinal Chemistry degree is highly adaptable. In addition to a comprehensive study of chemistry, I studied biology modules in cell signalling, metabolism, immunology, and genetics. I also studied multi-variable calculus, statistics, and Fourier analysis. The well-roundedness of this degree has prepared me well to pursue a career in research. Show less

Online Course Developing Artificial Intelligence Applications

This course provided a strong foundation in machine learning principles and its applications to scientific fields. The content of the course included descriptions of various machine learning approaches, model types and their respective strengths and weakenesses. The course covered the fundamentals of data pre-processing, feature engineering, model selection, hyperparameter tuning, validation, and pipeline integration to provide a comprehensive study of the machine learning development cycle… Show more This course provided a strong foundation in machine learning principles and its applications to scientific fields. The content of the course included descriptions of various machine learning approaches, model types and their respective strengths and weakenesses. The course covered the fundamentals of data pre-processing, feature engineering, model selection, hyperparameter tuning, validation, and pipeline integration to provide a comprehensive study of the machine learning development cycle. The course culminated with an overview of large language models and how they are being applied. The skills learned during this course were applied to the development of convolutional neural network classifiers of the CIFAR image datasets, and enabled an independent project to develop a classifier of small molecule inhibitors of the BACE1 enzyme based on IC50 assay data and structural molecular features.
