Master of Science - MS Geology/Earth Science, General

Studying the effects of warm and dry conditions on active layer thaw and water development through the summer of 2021.

    • Elgin County Railway Museum

      May 2016 - Sept 2016
      Special Collections & Tour Guide

Worked as an archivist for the museum, which included updating and maintaining previous records, accepting new accessions into the archives, and photographing and uploading new items to the archival database. The second half of the job involved being a tour guide, whereby I gave walking tours of the museum's publicly displayed rolling stock

      Special Collections & Tour Guide

Worked as an archivist for the museum, which included updating and maintaining previous records, accepting new accessions into the archives, and photographing and uploading new items to the archival database. In 2017, I also designed and implemented a new archival catalogue system for the museum to maintain their physical collections and to properly find them in the archive. The second half of the job involved being a tour guide, whereby I gave walking tours of the museum's publicly displayed rolling stock Show less

      Sept 2017 - May 2022

      - Spent 40 days in the Western Canadian Arctic conducting field work (April 25 - June 5th, 2018). Among various many tasks, I helped with: Lake Water Isotope collection, Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) work on land subsidence, Snow Surveys, Instrument calibration, stream velocity point measurements, maintaining two weirs, and other various camp activities.- From June onwards, I helped with collecting and compiling all of the meteorological data for the Mackenzie Delta, alongside a literature review of projects in the area Show less

Used a fully integrated, physically based numerical model, called GEOtop, to simulate water resources and active layer thaws in a small Arctic watershed across different climatic scenarios.

      Aug 2023 - now
      Associate Researcher

Using a fully integrated, physically based numerical model to analyze how different landforms across various climatic scenarios are affected by changing temperatures and available moisture, and what this means for ground thaw. This model, GEOtop, is being used to simulate Trail Valley Creek (TVC) (55km2) in the NWT. This builds upon the work done during my Master's thesis, where I simulated Siksik Creek (A sub-catchment of TVC) and analyzed how different landforms affected thaw, and how this was affected by different available soil moisture contents across multiple years. This is being upscaled to the whole of TVC now, with more landforms being classified, and being applied across a larger time frame. Eventually this will be used to forecast what the possibly drying / wetting of Arctic catchments might mean for a changing hydrological regime and for ground thaw. Show less
