Individual Project:Traditionally, designing a building envelope has been a crucial issue, because of the very influential role of light in buildings in maintaining comfort for occupants thermally and visually. My idea of a modern multi-functional building envelope suggests a conventional diagrid structure supporting ETFE cushions. Air in the cushions serves as insulation. Printing an appropriate opaque pattern onto the foil would control light transmittance. Inspired by the human skin and its blood circulation responding to heat and cold, every cushion of this performative envelope gains heat or transfers it. The building’s “blood circulation” is a water network in the linked cushions transferring the amount of heat from the building core to the surface or vice versa. After analyzing and adapting the design and validating the concept by simulation, the goal is to build a model of the envelope for testing. Postdoctoral Researcher

During the last year I have been involved in the following projects as a research assistant at Built Environment department of TU Kl:_ LiSA Project: The LiSA project is a collaborative project in the area of façade and lighting technology to provide the most energy-efficient operation in an office taking into consideration users’ satisfaction. Efficient use of daylight and reduction of overheating in summer is enhanced by means of external shading systems and electrochromic glazing (EC) by considering the interaction of the individual building components. _ MPC for complex shading: As part of the LiSA project, a model-predictive control is being developed in collaboration with LRS at TU Kl, this approach optimizes the operation of the complex facade components._ Living Lab smart office space: The LiSA project demonstration is taking place in the Living Lab smart office space (TU Kaiserslautern), which is subject to detailed monitoring of environmental conditions and occupants’ feedback. The occupants working in the Living Lab have the opportunity to interact with the technologies, therefore their thermal and visual comfort is an essential part of the investigation as well as energy savings._ HDR image processing: As part of the LiSA project an 360° HDR-sensor technology is implemented to evaluate visual discomfort and glare probability in collaboration with DFKI. _ PhySCo: PhySCo provides localized comfort results for each body segment computed from skin and core temperatures predicted by Human Thermal Module. It is basically a combined model of thermophysiology (65MN), thermal Sensation and Comfort models (Berkeley Comfort Model)._ SoLoCalc: Calculation of the Solar Load onto some detailed model of an occupant in a room using BSDF and a View Factor Approach. _ Coupling the ESP-r with PhySCo_ OLAT Show less
