Structural design engineer for the major structures technical authority. My role involves working with project managers, contractors and stakeholders to support the various projects on site, as well as review and approval of designs prepared by subcontractors. This involves producing structural calculations, 2D and 3D CAD drawings and associated design reports to communicate the intent of the design. As the site incorporates a nuclear licensed facility, I am also involved in the substantiation of new and existing structures. This involves natural and man-made hazards, such as seismic loading, impact from objects and vehicles and extremes of temperature and weather.Due to the nature of my work, I have experience producing calculations to Eurocode, British Standard and applicable AISCE codes. As well as quick and accurate hand calculations, I have extensive experience with industry standard supporting software, particularly MathCAD, LUSAS, TEDDS and STAAD. I am also skilled in the use of AutoCAD, Inventor and Navisworks, with experience producing 2D drawings, and 3D and 4D models. Show less 8 months CDM site experience on two major infrastructure projects, working as part of the project teams. Gained experience of managing work packages, working with contractors and the tender process, as well as working within the requirements of a CDM and nuclear licensed site. Both projects were nuclear safety related, giving me experience of how working practices and designs need to be modified to meet statutory regulation.Further experience gained in a design office, designing new structures and modifications to legacy structures. Worked to Eurocode, British Standards and classification society rules, as well as applicable defence and nuclear standards. I have produced designs using materials from steel and concrete to timber, rope and fibre reinforced plastic (FRP), and carried out dynamic assessments for seismic actions. I have also worked within the nuclear safety team, learning how changes to a nuclear licensed site must be managed, and how this drives the design process, for example through hazard identification studies and human factors task analysis.
