      Processing milk into safe and premium quality dairy products and overseeing the implementation and maintenance of a HACCP food safety system and certification of products to national standards.Established and led the company's Quality Department, managing the implementation of a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system. Oversaw the setting up of rigorous processing and quality monitoring controls from raw materials reception to dispatch of final products. These contributed to the company’s current position as Uganda’s leading manufacturer of quality and safe dairy products Led a team that got the company HACCP certified by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and HALAL certified by the Uganda Halal Bureau. This was complemented by product certifications by UNBS. Carried out periodic reviews of the production processes to ensure their effectiveness and the subsequent annual renewal of the certification permits.Developed raw material specifications and standard operating procedures for the different production lines and trained factory workers in good manufacturing practices and good hygiene practices.Served as the company’s internal auditor for production processes and conducted second party audits of suppliers of inputs.Served as the company’s Procurement Officer for raw milk and dairy related inputs, evaluating potential suppliers against the set specifications, selecting suitable suppliers and eventually evaluating the supplied inputs against the raw material specifications As a member of the production team, participated in processing milk into pasteurised and UHT products, yoghurt, cream cheese and butter. Accumulated close to 200 man-days in auditing (1st, 2nd and 3rd party) HACCP, Quality and Food Safety Management Systems.Specific roles include:- Supervising, mentoring and providing technical support to staff handling management systems certification activities in line with established policies and procedures;- Monitoring implementation and ensuring that certification procedures, policies, guidelines and applicable standards are duly followed by auditors in the execution of management systems certification activities;- Planning, conducting and reporting initial certification, surveillance and recertification audits for products, processes, services and management systems;- Maintaining up to date databases of management systems certification clients;- Guiding stakeholders to undertake certification of products, services and management systems;- Sampling products for laboratory analysis and using the results to support certification decisions;- Conducting trainings for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises and providing guidance in the implementation of standards;- Monthly, quarterly and annual planning, budgeting and reporting of systems certification activities; and - Establishment of targets and performance indicators and subsequent performance evaluation for staff under the Systems Certification Section. Show less Developing standards to facilitate and promote fair practices in trade, safeguard public health and safety as well as the environment from dangerous and substandard goods.Secretary to national Technical Committees on nutrition and foods for special dietary uses, food additives, contaminants in food and feeds, food hygiene, food labelling, and drinking water, coordinating standards development activities. This comprised conducting research, data collection and analysis, risk assessment, drafting standards, mobilising stakeholders to participate in standards development activities, convening meetings of the Technical Committees as well as representing Uganda in standardisation activities in the East African Community, the African Union, Codex Alimentarius and International Organisation for Standardisation. Participated in the development of several national, East African Community, Codex and ISO standards. Notably, I authored the current national standard for Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) based food safety systems (US 130:2017) that aims to guarantee safe food in the food supply chains through establishing preventive food controls.Served as the Codex Focal Point for Uganda, managing correspondences between the Codex Alimentarius Commission, its subsidiary bodies and Uganda, and mobilising and coordinating the participation of Ugandan experts in Codex processes. Further served as the Coordinator of the East African Community (EAC) Codex Forum, notably coordinating a successful application for support from the FAO/WHO Codex Trust Fund worth US $ 475,000 to develop sustainable Codex structures in the EAC.Provided interpretation of standards and promoted their use through organising workshops, industrial visits, trainings, and supporting the Certification Department of UNBS as a Technical Expert for ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP/GHP and product certifications in food and agriculture.
