      The responsibilities of the Problem Solving Specialist include the following:Meets with participants to learn about family dynamics, and cultural factors that may assist in finding housing inside the participant’s network or family, as a last resort utilizing the resources of the Program to obtain housing,Helps participants establish a plan to sustain housing permanentlyProvides field-based case management services including, but not limited to, housing stabilization, money management, community integration, employment linkage, benefits establishment and linkage to community providers for substance use, primary and mental health careEngages in deliberate (or multiple) thoughtful and individualized conversation(s) that seeks to solve their immediate or near-term housing crisis.Negotiates when needed with family, friends and landlords to keep families out of the homeless system.Utilizes active listening, coaching, motivational interviewing, mediation and conflict resolution with families/friends and/ or landlords, connection to mainstream resources, housing search assistance, housing stabilization planning, and family reunificationServes as an advocate or liaison for family with community organizations including learning about availability of resources and services, eligibility, and processes of engagement.Provides crisis intervention services focused on enhancing the clients’ ability to independently problem solve, utilize effective coping skills and manage and self-coordinate careCommunicates with and visits, families, outside service providers and landlords to familiarize them with the program and the unique needs of participants.Coordinates collection of documents required to receive financial assistance.Uses guidance provided by LAHSA to track conversations, outcomes, and services provided to ensure program goals are met.Continuously works to identify and apply new, creative approaches and solutions for each participant/family Show less
