This study focused on the extent to which popular media influenced popular opinion through both quantitative and qualitative methods. I focused on YouTube comment sections and social media responses to understand the reaction individuals had towards portrayals of domestic violence through music videos and news articles. This allowed for me to use coding software Nvivo to understand the common words used in order to establish trends in opinion. The dissertation allowed me to draw conclusions on how individuals understood domestic violence and how the media encourages these reactions. Show less
