This included enhancing my knowledge on the various phases of project implementation and management from initial design through to monitoring and evaluation. I practised using tools such as theories of change, cost-benefit analyses, risk analyses, logical frameworks, stakeholder analyses, and participatory methodologies. My dissertation strongly argued the role of identity politics in fuelling war and the media's contribution to this. I also wrote a stakeholder analysis as part of a Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) programme in response to the war in South Sudan. • NICHOLASTON HOUSE

      Mar 2009 - Sept 2016
      General Assistant

I was a valuable member of this team for 7 years. Throughout my time, I enthusiastically responded to the needs of the customers and I coordinated with others to provide outstanding service. I always maintained a sense of appropriateness and confidentiality during retreats for vulnerable young people and adults. Towards the end of my time, I worked independently serving the customers. As one of the longest serving members of staff, I would often supervise new employees.

      University Ambassador

During my time at university, I worked at open days for the University of Sussex. This involved being friendly and approachable to prospective students. Through our conversations, I hoped to inspire them and get them excited at the thought of studying International Development at Sussex. The department regularly asked me to speak about my experience and answer questions in a lecture hall full of 150 students.

This involved reviewing and processing applications for over 150 exhibitors and 20 traders, as well as liaising with all organisations throughout the year. Before the event, I wrote brochures and handbooks to ensure the exhibitors and traders had all of the relevant information, and used MailChimp to push out these communications. During my second year at BCDO, I changed the layout exhibition layout of the exhibition, creating a significant amount of space which, in turn, increased profits as well as exhibitor satisfaction. As Accommodation Manager, I organised the accommodation of 300 guests, team and artists, ensuring that I was meeting individual requirements whilst managing expectations. My other responsibilities included copywriting, using Microsoft Office, iWork, a CMS and other software including Xero and PAAM, as well as other general administrative tasks including customer service, and making travel and logistical arrangements. • Independent Employer

      Aug 2017 - Oct 2017
      Graduate Researcher

I spent six weeks in Tanzania and Kenya assessing the viability of building a retreat and training centre. Once built, the centre will be aimed at equipping organisations working for social justice, gender equality and sustainable development in the Eastern and Central Africa region. I conducted face-to-face and online interviews with 29 organisations, which were a combination of local, national, and international NGOs, donors and multilateral organisations. I produced a report concluding my findings, which in the first part examined the results, drew key comparisons and highlighted relevant patterns and trends. The second part provided recommendations, and identified benefits, risks and solutions to guide accurate decisions in the next stage of designing the project. Show less
