  Engineering summer placement

  I was working as part of a team creating an Augmented Reality Display. Being a Systems Engineer gave me a broad knowledge of the product life cycle and a technical knowledge of optical displays. My main responsibilities included writing safety reports and build documents needed for delivery of the product, talking to the customers and writing specifications for the product we were designing. Having had no previous experience in this line of work demonstrates my ability to adapt to new careers and challenges. Show less

  I have previously worked at Acorn Pressurisation Services where I provide technical support, write quotations and analyse engineering data. My typical day involves writing quotations based on engineering reports and when these quotations are returned from the customer I order the materials and organise for the works to be carried out. Depending on how many of these quotations are ordered this may involve organising several jobs in a week. This proved an unfamiliar role however within a few months I was completing every task confidently and accurately, demonstrating my ability to adapt to new roles effectively. Show less

  I am currently working at BAE Systems Submarines as part of the Business Analysis and Modelling team. My main responsibilities involve designing, building and validating dynamic models for optimising business performance using both Excel VBA and simulation software. Another of my main responsibilities is to carry out schedule and cost risk analysis building models with uncertainty and probabilistic risks. In order to build these models I elicit requirements from stakeholders using techniques which I learnt whilst completing a BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis. Show less
