  I dedicated a week of my summer to volunteer as a counselor for the Alabama Boys State program. I had to the opportunity to guide future leaders in their future college and career plans. I was able to teach them about government and the importance of citizenship. Most importantly I was able to be a mentor that they can call on for advice whenever they need it. I was the staff member in charge of running the senate which entailed teaching the delegates parliamentary procedure and advising them on bill writing, as well as making sure they followed the proper legislative process.   Boys Nation Senator

  Every state sends 2 “senators” to Boys Nation in Washington DC to run a mock senate in the nations capitol. The senators are upcoming high school seniors who are educated and interested in politics. The week long camp fosters civic education, friendships from across the country, and political connections. The program delegates meet with their state senators and congressman and even go to the White House to meet the President. With alumni such as Bill Clinton, Michael Jordan, Tom Brokaw, and many more prominent people in many industries. Boys Nation is the premier youth camp for student leaders in government. Show less

Show less The Elliott Society is a Community Service Based University Wide Honorary dedicated to social justice. Membership into this society is one of the highest honors at The University of Alabama. The Elliott Society is named in honor of the late Carl Atwood Elliott, a former University of Alabama SGA President, who later became an Alabama congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives. He based his political principles on assistance to the needy, racial tolerance, and better educational opportunities to all. His works in Congress especially focused on education. Two very notable acts Elliott co-authored include The Library Services Act of 1956 and the National Defense Education Act of 1958. Show less The Coordinating Council for Honor Societies (CCHS) was founded at The University of Alabama in the spring of 1987 with the goals of increasing campus awareness of honor societies and supporting the initiations and events of member groups. As Vice President of service my job is to help coordinate service projects between the honor societies, and assist them in the planning and implementation of their projects. I also am in charge of planning a service project for all the honor societies to participate in. Show less Since 1960, Freshman Forum has provided leadership education and training as well as civic engagement opportunities for students at the Capstone. Freshman Forum is centered on the values of leadership, scholarship, and service. Through Freshman Forum, freshman students build a network of peers, faculty, and staff across campus, gain an awareness of campus resources, and develop their personal leadership identity. Every year over a thousand applicants apply for only 300 available spots.Freshman Forum is a network of freshman students seeking personal and professional development through interactive discussion, leadership training, and civic engagement led by former members who strive to unlock participant’s unique potential.   The student affairs cabinet deals with all aspects of college because college is for the students. As deputy chief of staff I assist the Vice President of Student Affairs and his Chief of Staff with running the rest of the cabinet and making sure everyone is doing their assignments.   Boys Nation Junior Counselor

  After being chosen from an extremely competitive pool of candidates I have the honor to serve a 3 year term as a Junior Counselor for the Boys Nation program. There are only 8 junior counselors each year and junior counselors can serve up to 3 years on staff. To be a junior counselor you have to be chosen by staff from your year as a Boys Nation delegate. Boys Nation is a program that brings 2 “senators” from every state to represent their state in a mock senate in Washington D.C. The delegates hear from amazing speakers, get to meet with their US Senators from their home state, and even visit the White House and meet with the President or VP. The program brings together the best high school seniors in the country, and I am so honored to be a part of “a week that shapes a lifetime” for a few more years. Show less
