  I am excited to be a co-founder with Tom Fernandez of Last Mile Food Rescue, Greater Cincinnati’s first large scale food rescue operation.It is estimated hat 40% of all perishable/fresh foods gets thrown away by grocers, convention centers, hotel ballrooms, stadiums, universities and restaurants. Food that, now more than ever, is needed to feed people. Our food banks do a great job but can’t pick up all of this kind of food as they don’t have the storage capacity (food banks operate on a hub and spoke model). Introducing Last Mile Food Rescue, Greater Cincinnati’s first large scale food rescue operation. We only rescue fresh, perishable food that will be consumed within 24 to 48 hours of pick up. Each Food Rescue takes less than 90 minutes and is facilitated by the app downloaded onto the volunteers’ phones, which directs the volunteers to the Food Donor and after pick up directs to the nonprofit organization for drop off.
