      FVU Trin 2/Trin 3

At Sprogcenter Hellerup I am studying FVU Dansk Trin 2 (out of 4 levels). This was a natural progression from my Danish language/culture education and a good opportunity to improve my Danish skills.

      Danskuddannelse 3 Danish Language

Danskuddannelse 3 (Danish Education 3) is the official Danish education for immigrants to Denmark. There are 3 levels split into 6 modules with Danish 3 being the highest. At Hellerup Sprogcentre I went from knowing nothing of Danish to being able to hold a conversation and communicate in my everyday life. Alongside teaching us the language, they also taught us about Danish culture. I found the whole experience quite interesting and was glad to be given the opportunity.

We began by learning Web Design and then they introduced marketing and communication, followed by animation and 3D. Along the way we also learnt design principles, typography, PHP, etc.The course has so far been a great experience and it has given me insight into areas I had never previously considered. Apr 2011 - Nov 2019
      Web Designer

Alongside work and study I have also found the time to do some freelance web design work. Although generally unpaid it has given me lots of valuable experience in allowing me to put my knowledge to use. I have worked on a series of projects over the last few years for a variety of different clients. Most of the work I have done has been voluntary and often linked to my connections with the Clear Light Buddhist Centre whose website was my first and primary project as a freelance web designer.I have predominately worked with WordPress as a platform because I consider it quick and easy to setup and use. It also enables my clients the freedom to manage their own websites and make their own updates. Although many often find it daunting at first, they usually embrace it with time and I am only called upon to make major changes or sort out problems. In some cases I have written detailed guides for them on how to perform updates and change areas of their websites. Giving clients the knowledge and freedom to manage their own sites gives me more time to concentrate on work and study commitmentsAs a result of these projects i have learnt a lot about WordPress and gained many skills working with people while designing and building the websites. • Freemi

      Jun 2019 - Aug 2019
      Developer Internship

During my internship at Freemi I was responsible for a variety of tasks working on their app and its future development. I initially focused on getting myself up to speed with the latest version of Angular and learning Ionic 4 and Storybook. Both of which they wanted to implement in the future. To get myself up to date with these technologies, I completed various tutorials and build prototype projects. I also developed a visual site map of the Freemi app in order to better understand its flow and familiarize myself with how everything tied together. The idea was also to help any future developers more quickly get their head around the app, as by this stage it has been in production for 3 years with very little documentation. I also began working on refactoring the App to use the latest version of Angular (8) and Ionic 4 with the goal of improving the efficiency, speed and future proofing the app (as there’s a lot of big changes between Ionic 3 and 4).It was a very good internship in terms of professional development. It introduced me to working with Progressive Web Apps, Ionic and Storybook and greatly improved my understanding of Angular. Show less

      External Lecturer

I was invited to introduce students from DIS to dumpster diving. (Which to clarify is legal in Denmark). It might seem a bit odd, but I was approached by the school because the students were learning a lot about food waste, the food supply chain and sustainability. As the school focuses on experience based learning it was felt that this would be an interesting experience for them.I found it personally very enlightening, as although I have done many tour's (especially free walking tours) myself. I have never led one and especially not for 8 people at night in the dark. I made a point of educating them along the way taking the opportunity to explain things, answer questions and teach them about food waste, food safety and some fun facts and stories to keep it interesting. I applied a lot of my own experiences of being a tourist to try and keep it interesting. I felt it was challenging, but in a really rewarding way as it pushed my comfort zone a lot and the feedback I got was super positive. Show less
