Graduation was one of the saddest times of my life because the thrill of the competition seemed to be ending. However, my reward--Salutatorian!

      Disabled

Disability isn't where I planned to be so early in life. I thought it was an"obstacle" to slow me down & rethink my life choices. I realized each choice demanded more of ME. ME time at work. ME away from home & family. ME away from church. ME needing more education-more, more. I felt my passion for nursing combined w/this drive I developed, put me in a position to actively set higher standards & care of the elderly; AND IT DID-AT A COST! I realized I had lost prospective in other aspects of my life. These "aspects" quickly detoured the direction of, not just my career, but also my health and my life. Altho difficult & heart-breaking, I reluctantly, but graciously, accepted that which was set before me. I have accepted new mantras, 1)"You have nothing if you have not Faith, Family & Friends to embrace!" 2)"We are blessed beyond what we deserve! Appreciate it!" 3) BREATHE! I deeply love, adore & respect my husband! We have faced many obstacles TOGETHER! He is my island of peace when others push me into a sea of discord; a hedge around me when others squeeze the life from me; my rock when I'm sinking under the many things I commit to. He's a strong, understanding man! He knows me better than I know myself. He helped me remember I needed to work on ME! I needed to find alternatives to release the negative stress (physical, emotional and spiritual.) I've had to develop other interests. I have always been OCD, a perfectionist, an avid organizer, arranger & detailer. I am known as"The Rubber Maid Queen w/a Label Gun!" We have 2 fur-babies-a Chi mix (Lil' Bit) & a ChiWeenie/Terrier mix (JoJo). They are both loved as our children! I love spending time with Family & Friends, RV'ing, Camping, Cruising in the side-by-side & taking trips on the motorcycle w/my husband. I'll NEVER loose my passion for my GOD or for NURSING nor for being an advocate for the geriatric population! My heart is forever dedicated to them. Show less

All equipment was furnished by KET with the facility furnishing classroom materials. The facility managers assisted in scheduling a time during which employees could attend without taking time away from their children or days off. They provided job coverage for the employees during class times. I was the instructor for all class sessions. The classes targeted employees, residents & members of the community requiring particular classes to complete a GED program or could be transferred into college credits. The cap class size was determined according to the number of employees at the facility offering the program. Our cap was 10 students. I had 10 positions taken AND a waiting list. Upon taking the final examination, those 10 students received outstanding grades & was awarded a Certificate of Completion. They were immediately placed on a list for the next class offering. The completion/pass rate was 100%; only 1 of 3 in the top 5 percent (out of 14 much larger businesses) that chose to participate. I was ecstatic to receive an invitation to a Governor's Luncheon where awards would be given for outstanding effort & enthusiasm and student completion rate of the School-At-Work program. Of course, I attended & chose a student to attend, as well. It was a gratifying experience to teach these classes & to receive this award, It was even more gratifying to watch the smile on the face of my student as she accepted the class award with great pride.
