Responsibilities included analyzing all introduced bills and budget proposals related to the Department of Public Safety, the five state retirement systems, the Ohio Historical Society, the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, and various occupational boards. Duties included the drafting of fiscal notes for each introduced bill in my subject area, drafting bill sections that dealt primarily with fiscal issues, preparing detailed analysis of agency budget proposals, attending committee meetings, and conducting research for individual members of the General Assembly upon request. The Division’s annual operating budget was slightly over $12 million and the capital budget was slightly more than $6 million. Duties included collaborating with the Administrator of the Division in preparing the annual operating and capital budgets, preparing a five-year capital spending plan, preparing quarterly fiscal reports, drafting legislation for major purchases, approving all day-to-day purchases, compiling and analyzing performance measure data, and directly supervising the Division’s Accountant.
