      Poultry FarmingOn the family farm we grow broiler chickens, receiving day old chicks from the hatchery with the division of Cocks and Pullets. They are kept for approximately 40 day cycle with almost 7 batches per year supplying Carton Bros in Shercock Co Cavan. Out poultry houses use automatic ventilation system from Fancom to ensure climate conditions for the birds is optimum for growth expectation. We use an Augur fed feeding system from SKA and nipple drinkers.Duties:- Preparation of the Houses for day olds which include power-washing and disinfecting of the houses,- Spreading of shavings for bedding (After Bord Bia inspection approval for hygiene check) - Installing paper and starter feed under the drinkers for the day old birds- Draining of water lines and meal preparation - During growing process we collect deceased birds on a daily basis and culling operations ensuring even growth- Monitoring of climatic conditions and lighting for the birds,- Always ensuring hygiene procedures are adhered to, foot-dip and sanitary facilities- Clearing of chickens and catching- Removal of waste litter with operation of Manitou and loading operationsAlso whilst working on the family Farm included the operation of Plant and equipment on a regular basis which included, harvesting, Slurry operations, fertilising and cleaning with the use of Agricultural vehicles and equipment. O’Harte Poultry and Livestock FarmingAs a Farmer’s Son, growing up on a 200 Acre Farm in the North West of Ireland I have gained valuable experience the day to day running of both Diary, Poultry and Beef and suckler cattle farming with over 150 head of cattle and 65,000 broiler chickens.Dairy Farming:On the Farm at home we milked up to 100 Holstein Friesian Dairy cows in a 6 bay parlour supplying to Monaghan Milk owned by the Monaghan Co-op in the Republic of Ireland. Averaging around 1800 litres a day I would milk twice a day with cows exposed to fresh grass for approximately 6 months of the year and silage the remainder with production levels dropping.Duties:- Quality Control and Hygiene checks- Cleaning and milking operations with manual cluster removal- Feeding and raring calves- Monitoring of cow production levels- Drying off for Lactating cycle and cow calving.- Organising and co-ordinating strip grazing patterns ensuring paddocks are maintained and fertilised during Summer season- Operation of front loader with block grab to feed cattle- Daily cleaning of Slats and stalls during winter period Show less

      Harte Peat (Mushroom Casing and Compost packaging)Harte Peat specialises in mushroom Casing with the use of Peat for growing of mushrooms supplying peat products globally. Whilst working with Harte Peat my main duties was the extraction of peat, both Wet and dry by operating heavy plant and equipment. Wet peat is extracted using excavators and specially developed dumpers used for extreme wet ground conditions. Dry peat is harvested using Tractors and equipment:Duties:- Operation of Tractors and Harvest equipment including harrows, spoon harrow and millers. - Ridging and drawing away of harvested peat to established stockpiles with road access- Testing of Harvested peat ensuring correct moisture content.- Operation of Excavators and dumpers- Maintenance of tractors and machinery (Due to dust levels radiators and engines to be blew out daily to avoid overheating)- Operation and packing of containers using a manual conveyor and weighbridge operations- Loading of trucks with the use of Teleporter and Forklifts.Lakeland Farm MachineryA machinery sales and hire business located outside Castleblayney, Co Monaghan. I worked both in the sales yard and as Labour hire onto the Castleblayney Bypass project which included 14Km of new road to Green field site. Being labour hire I was assigned to various tasks including operating of 40 ton Dump trucks for Bulk earthwork operations and dust suppression with the use of Tractor and bowser.
