  • About me

    Being a textile chemist by qualification, in my initial career, I gained experience in the textile and chemical industry where I got insights into textile processing, dyes and auxiliaries manufacturing and marketing of dyes and chemicals to the textile and leather processing industry. For the last few years, I have specialised in the area of Chemical Management, Restricted Substances and Resource Efficiency. The textile and leather industry uses several chemicals and processes that impact human & worker health and the environment. Having worked in this industry for several years, I am acutely aware that a large part of the industry is either not aware of these impacts or are unwilling to recognise the importance of product and environmental safety. By joining ZDHC Foundation in 2018, I am able to connect my experience in the industry with the stakeholders to create awareness on this subject and offer the ZDHC Guidelines and Solutions to drive change in this industry towards sustainable chemical management practices. Since 2018, I have been accelerating the engagement of stakeholders in the South Asia region in ZDHC through workshops, events, implementation projects and the involvement of textile, leather and chemical manufacturers in our platforms such as the Gateway and Academy, as well as onboarding leading companies as ZDHC Contributors for a more proactive engagement. From this year, I am also leading the ZDHC Competence Centres comprising Sustainable Chemical Management, Water, Air and Fibres & Materials to connect safer chemistry into the impact areas of Water stewardship, GHG emissions. biodiversity and circularity in line with the ZDHC vision of 'a world in which better chemistry leads to the protection of life, land, air and water". And I am happy to be small part of this initiative and contribute to this noble goal!

Have also started an eco-toxicity laboratory to measure environmental impact of chemicals in terms of their COD, BOD, AOX, Inherent biodegradability and Aquatic toxicity parameters. Show less
