      Performing phylogenic studies on V. vulnificus environmental strains. Additionally analyzed strains of V. parahaemolyticus for hydrocarbon degradation (naphthalene). Molecular typing (DNA extraction) and RT-PCR was used for the phylogenic studies. Making reagents and media for weekly sampling.

      As a Graduate Research Assistant, I utilized an RNAi delivery system for gene silencing in the adult stage Lone star ticks (Amblyomma americanum) and additionally utilized an animal system for assessment of phenotypic changes with the goal of identification of potential vaccine candidates. My focus included two main goals: first was assessment of tick salivary metalloproteases via RNAi, and second was optimization of an artificial feeding system.
