Those to be recognised should have taken part in various sporting codes from 01 April 2009 to 31 March 2015. The nomination process was opened from 1st June until 15 July 2015. The process has allowed various sporting federations, league clubs and other interested parties to nominate their preferred sporting personalities from 16 identified categories. The process has seen the Sportsman of the Year category taking the lead with 7 nominations followed by the Coach of the Year, Newcomer of the Year as well as the Sportswoman of the Year categories. Categories on people with disabilities are still lagging behind.The categories seeks to recognise individuals, males, females, people with disability, continental participants, federations, schools and community sport volunteers.
