      Lifeguard Assistant Manager

      Lifeguarded for four years and was offered the position as lifeguard assistant manager on my fourth year. These positions required maintenance of lifeguard, first-aid, CPR, AED certifications, and fitness testing. Responsibilities included supervising Rock’N River Water Park lifeguards, conducting weekly training on emergency response protocol, and weekly audits of lifeguards on certification skills. Role included completing incident reports, serving as primary supervisor in emergency situations, and managing three different pump stations to maintain pool chemical and water levels for a water park with more than 1,000 guests every day. As assistant manager, I also organized our first lifeguard competition team and led training sessions to prepare for the Central Texas Aquatics Association Competition. Trainings taught skills to prepare for fitness tests, deep water rescue, spinal injury management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, choking and seizure management, first-aid, and many other techniques. Show less Collected data from families with 3–5-year-old children to study family mealtime and eating habits to find patterns in parenting style, food self-regulation, and self-esteem to examine family influences on childhood obesity and health, parental feeding practices, weight prejudice, and body image. Responsibilities also included meeting with families in the Dallas area, explaining the study, and engaging participating children at the UT Dallas research lab with games and questions. Additionally, research assistants traveled to the families' homes, brought research equipment, and instructed families on implementing the research data collection procedure during daily meal times.This project is still ongoing, and the final goal is to provide insight into how best to promote healthy attitudes and behaviors across the lifespan and contribute to the growing knowledge of the problem of childhood obesity.
