  I am currently affiliated with Kyoto University's Wildlife Research Center, but based at a satellite campus in Aichi prefecture called Inuyama Campus. I also teach within the Institute for Liberal Arts and Science at Kyoto University's main campus in Kyoto, and further operate within the Center for International Collaboration and Advanced Studies in Primatology (CICASP) at Kyoto University's new Center for the Evolutionary Origins of Human Behavior (EHUB). Like most academics, I have dual roles as a researcher and as an educator. My primary discipline is primatology and wildlife science, although I find my work involves various degrees of multidisciplinary involvement. My primary research interfaces behavioral ecology with infectious disease ecology and epidemiology, with both fundamental and applied aspects. I also investigate behavioral complexity to inform evolutionary theory as well as the applied fields of animal welfare and conservation. My undergraduate teaching includes courses in animal behavior, comparative cognition, conservation biology, and zoo biology. Lastly, through CICASP, I work toward internationalizing our institutions by managing international entrance examinations for our graduate program, supporting an international internship program and team-teaching courses for graduate students in fundamental animal behavior science and science communication.
