The WVU School of Public Health taught me the numerous and diverse aspects which can be considered as health-affecting mechanisms, and so I like to emphasize my interests as encompassing "wellness" rather than "health" since many associate the word health with the downstream forms of health such as healthcare and medical treatment. My internship with the WV Healthy Kids & Families Coalition sparked my interest in the realm of policy advocacy as a vital mechanism for improving community wellness from the grassroots - up, and my success in founding a Student Chapter of the Our Children, Our Future Campaign has enabled fellow students in this great initiative involving leadership development, community engagement, and policy change.
