      Capital Planning Division Director

      The Capital Planning Division of the Department ensures that the recreation facility needs of the residents of Mecklenburg County are met. The Division oversees the development of the Department’s Master Plan, which guides facility improvement, expansion, and construction. The Division is then responsible for the planning, community involvement, design, and construction of the recommended park and recreation facilities. Capital Planning is currently working through the first year of a five-year, $196,016,827 Capital Improvement Plan (FY19 to FY23) which includes new construction and renovation projects for parks, greenways, recreation centers, and nature preserves. The Division also serves as the primary coordination entity of the Department by developing and maintaining partnerships in the pursuit of fulfilling short- and long-term planning goals. Division staff work with staff from other agencies, contracted professionals, and community stakeholders directly or indirectly impacted by the planning process. Staff serve as liaisons to City and County agencies, private developers, nonprofit entities, neighboring towns, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, and local colleges and universities. They also work directly with elected and appointed officials at local, municipal, county, state, and federal levels with vested interests in these planning initiatives. Show less
