      MSc Strength and Conditioning

Activities and Societies: Through my masters programme I had the opportunity to volunteer with the youth Queens Park Rangers and Barnet Azzuri football academy teams. I assessed physical qualities and the posture of young players using speed gates, jumping mats and force platforms. I then conducted statistical analysis to calculate Total Score of Athleticism in order to benchmark players against each other. The results served as an indicator of strengths and weaknesses for each player. As a part of my course I have gained knowledge that can be applied to a range of athletes through periodised training programming and analysis of physiological responses to these regimes. My dissertation explored the trail leg EMG activity during different punching modalities in amateur boxing. As part of this, I conducted testing session and independently interpreted data using contemporary scientific research methods.

    • Salle Paul Fencing Centre

      Jan 2015 - now
      Strength and Conditioning Coach

As of January 2015 I have been working with Salle Paul Fencing Club. This role involves supporting the head coach with S&C sessions for the most talented young fencers in the club (aged 13-17). I work closely with the fencing instructors to coordinate training plans. The group consists of 4 boys and 2 girls, one of which includes a fencer who is representing the club on international level. Adolescence is a crucial period in athletic development and S&C plays an important role particularly in supporting performance and mitigating the risk of injury. I initially tested the participants against the Fitness Prerequisites for International Competition Selection. This testing included unilateral SBJ, change of direction speed and repeated lunge ability. Following that I developed periodised training routines for the six fencers according to the Long Term Athlete Development model whilst taking into account gender differences. The programme included exercises such as back/front squat, Olympic weightlifting derivatives, unilateral exercises and plyometric drills. It resulted in overall strength, posture and mobility improvements and a reduction in muscular imbalances generated by the nature of the sport. I also focused on addressing typical movement dysfunctions observed in teenagers in accordance with National Academy of Sports Medicine guidelines. All of the trainees were subsequently selected to be part of the GB talent path. Show less
