  Mr. Smith was responsible for all aspects of portfolio construction and stock selection for MFS's institutional international equity portfolios 2001 - April 2017. The portfolio grew from $120m to approximately $24.0 Billion (US) during his tenure. The portfolios were the recipient of the Lipper Award in 2005 and 2010 for Best 3 Year performance of 359 Large Capitalization International portfolios.Mr. Smith was a member of the Equity Management Committee, which reviews and implements the firm's investment process improvements. He previously served as Director of Equity, Canada where he lead the integration of 10 Toronto based investment staff who joined as a result of the acquisition of McLean Budden by MFS Investment Management. Prior to this, he was the Director of Equity, Asia (2010-2012) and was responsible for recruitment, management and compensation of MFS's Asia based investment professionals. The professionals that reported to Mr. Smith included the Asian Director of Research who managed the firm's 15 analysts located in Singapore, Tokyo & Sydney, two Asia based portfolio managers, and an institutional portfolio manager. Mr. Smith served as the Asian Director of Research (Singapore based) from 2005 - 2009, in this role he managed the firm's analysts based in Singapore & Tokyo. He worked as a European equity analyst 1994-2000 and was based in London from 1995-2000. In this role, he was responsible for coverage of European Banks, Insurers, Pharmaceutical & Telecom names.
