San Antonio City Council District #8
Feb 2015 - May 2015City Council CandidateI have spent the last few months traveling around Bexar Counties. I have listened to the people. I see hope for tomorrow. But I also see how far we have yet to go. Our nation is still struggling to emerge from this recession. Some regions are doing better than others. As I’ve listened to the good people of the 8th District, I’ve heard stories about the fears of the under-served and underrepresented. I’ve heard concerns about declines in economic development…dismal education results…a foreclosure crisis that looms too large over too many of our families…declining services for our Veterans…the struggles of working moms—and dads—to pull it all together for their families…and the near-constant concerns over stagnant job markets and narrowing opportunities for our children to grow, learn and prosper. Listening to these stories has been a humbling experience for me. And it has pushed me toward action.I may not have all the answers, but I’ve spent my life as a public servant—twenty seven years of honorable and decorated military and public service—and I’m not going to stop now. I want the same things for the people of San Antonio and District #8 that I want for my family…for all my children. All of our families deserve access to health care, and a world-class education. We deserve the basic freedom of being able to walk our streets without a dark cloud of fear caused by the flood of the dangerous weapons that threaten the very well-being of our families. And above all, we deserve jobs that are good enough to let us live with dignity and self-respect. It’s not too much to ask – and it’s not too much to expect. We CAN do better. If you, the good people of the District #8, elect me to City Council, I make this commitment to you: I will be your servant leader in government to make sure we always have a seat at the table.
