In addition to providing purely recreational trips, the team has been innovative in finding ways to put on extra training opportunities, allowing 9 members of the station population to be trained as crew. This not only aids the personal development of these individuals, it also increases the pool of staff available to assist with both work and recreation trips in the coming 25/26 summer season, where recreation is again highly likely to be constrained. In a clear demonstration of excellence in their performance, over the 16-week period from 1st January 2025-25th April 2025 these individuals took part in 182 boating operations. Of these, 33 were recreation trips with a further 10 training trips. This means that these members of staff voluntarily increased their workload by 24% over a 4-month period, with the vast majority of these trips taking place over weekends that would otherwise have been time off – a real show of integrity from the team. This marked increase in recreation opportunities has had a major positive impact on station morale, especially during periods of high station occupancy. Even more remarkable is that this has been achieved with no negative impact on the day-to-day diving and science operations that is the team’s primary role. This contribution to station life, demonstrating the key values of Collaboration, Innovation, Excellence and Integrity, is significant and deserving of recognition" Show less
