      Mathematics

Driven by a genuine fascination for the complexities of logic and its philosophical underpinnings, I began my university career by immersing myself in the first-year coursework of mathematics. However, a life-changing experience during a voluntary work program in Brazilian favelas the following year prompted a shift in my academic pursuits, leading me to explore the realms of Economics and Business Management.

Through sources like Nietzsche’s letters as well as his books, I reconstruct the origins of this sentence in the ancient Greek poetry of Pindar. The riddle-form of this exhortation emerges as a metaphorical expression of Nietzsche’s interpretation of reality, as it incorporates a kernel of contradiction that epitomises the essence of reality. The philosophical condition to become what we are consists of the understanding and embracement of nihilism, which enables us to become free and autonomous value positers. In conclusion, I highlight how the concepts of freedom, autonomy, selfhood, self-overcoming, and amor fati, according to Nietzsche’s perspective, can only develop from nihilism as their philosophical condition. When Kant introduces a dogmatic division of all rights that can be acquired by contract, both goods and money are mentioned as elements of that system. In the chapter “What is Money?”, Kant inquiries into this concept to display its form, trying to define it by pure intellectual relations. I claim that Kant proceeds in his attempt by applying the twelve categories to the empirical concept of money, to reach a final and consistent real definition. By analyzing how the examination is performed, we have a remarkable example of Kant’s theoretical assessment useful to clarify his epistemology. Moreover, his reflections prove to be relevant to various current philosophical debates in moral and political philosophy, but also to history of economics and intellectual history. Show less
