      Industrial placement student

      I lead my own research project aiming to develop a novel polymer to match a market opportunity. This project involved me planning my own experiments to synthesise and analyse novel polymers. I used Thermogravimetric analysis and Differential Scanning Calorimetry to determine thermal properties.After 6 months I transferred to an analytical role where I used capillary rheometers and instron mechanical testing systems to determine the properties of lab and pilot plant products. The results I collected during this time helped drive the project forward to allow scale up to manufacturing.For the final 3 months of my placement I provided support to the Quality Control team at Invibio, the medical side of Victrex's business. I worked with CE marked products and medical devices completing dimensional analysis to ISO9001 and ISO13485 testing specifications.The experience I gained during my time at Victrex gave me a clear understanding of what is necessary to develop a new product and ensure it is market ready. I fully engaged with all of my roles and showed I can adapt fast to new challenges and make an immediate impact. Show less

      I took this temporary position to provide cover for an employee on sickness leave. This role required me to manage internal and external testing and was a steep learning curve. In my short time at Biffa I gained valuable analytical experience collecting data on solid, liquid and gas samples. The data I collected directly impacted process decisions made on site and my testing had to comply with regulations provided by the environment agency.
