As a student ambassador in Kingston Plaza I acquired experience by ensuring that after office hours the accommodation was safe and secure for the students. Students had a wide range of problems that I had to come up with a solution for, these problems ranged from deposit payments being made to ensuring information on excel spread sheets are up to date as well as ensuring maintenance was carried out correctly throughout the building. I also acquired experience by showing new students to their rooms and scheduling appointments for flat viewings. Show less

    • Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)

      Sept 2018 - Jun 2019
      Student Ambassador

This role involved representing Kingston University as the only ambassador for the institution in the university. Every week I communicated with ICE professionals, academics and students to promote the ICE the most effective way possible on campus. This allowed me to enhance my communication, presentation, leadership and organisation skills. Part of my role involved setting up stalls and giving presentations on campus to encourage students to get involved with the ICE. The role also included organising visits to the ICE for the students to get a better understanding of what the institution is about. The ICE has me on official record for the development of the leadership attribute needed to become a chartered engineer. Show less

      Sept 2018 - Jun 2019

My role as a teaching assistant involved helping first-year students at Kingston University understand the fundamental concepts of structural mechanics and materials. This role enhanced my presentation, communication, organisation and leadership skills. I communicated with academics and students daily to ensure that the students I assisted got the best possible learning experience. Each week I was tasked to support a class of 30 students to ensure they understood the material that was being taught. Show less

    • Kingston University Civil Engineering Society

      Nov 2018 - Jun 2019

My tenure as president of the Civil Engineering Society enhanced my leadership, communication, organisation and presentation skills. Every day, I was tasked in speaking to lecturers and fellow students to promote the society the most effective way possible on campus. Multiple stalls were created within the university to promote the civil engineering field and to answer questions or concerns students had. Multiple site-visits were organised by the team with companies such as ISG and MLM, where society members were able to come along for a deeper understanding of what civil engineering is about. Social events were also organised within the university such as pizza and movie nights. This allowed students to get together and make new friends on the common interest that they’re civil engineering students. At all levels of the civil engineering student hierarchy, I was the main point of contact for individuals who had concerns relating to their studies during university. I’ve taken great pride in knowing that I’ve guided multiple students towards academic success and got first-year students settled into university. Show less

      Civil/Structural Engineer

My role at TfL involved aiding senior civil/structural engineers in the analysis and design of structural elements, reading of technical drawings and checking of technical documents. I’ve gained experience in conceptual design sketching and designers risk assessment, while simultaneously gaining industry experience in Eurocodes (EC) such as, EC2, EC3 and EC7. I was required to carry out all calculations by hand and then check using spreadsheets and industry licensed software such as STAAD.Pro. An understanding of CDM (2015) regulations was achieved during this internship. At the end of each week, I was required to submit a report highlighting the key activities I’ve completed throughout the week, which goes towards my IPD records. I was part of the cable route management system (CRMS) team on the 4LM project in London. Show less

    • UCL

      Oct 2019 - Sept 2020
      MSc Course Representative

Represented the MSc Civil Engineering class during the 2019/2020 academic year at UCL. An election campaign was carried out for this position which led to me winning by acquiring the highest number of votes. Relevant student feedback was sent to me and appropriately given to academics during Student Rep/Staff meetings to resolve any issues students had.

    • Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)

      Feb 2020 - Sept 2020
      UCL Postgraduate Student Ambassador

Represented the ICE as the only Postgraduate Student Ambassador in UCL. During this role I set up stalls on campus to give civil engineering students more information about the ICE and how to progress with their ICE membership once they graduate from university. I was in close contact with ICE professionals and UCL academics to ensure the students understood what the ICE can provide for them after their graduation. The ICE personally invited me to give a live online presentation on their website to share my experiences as a postgraduate civil engineering student at UCL. This gave future students an idea on what to expect when transitioning from an undergraduate to a postgraduate degree in civil engineering. Show less

    • Capita Real estate and infrastructure

      Jun 2021 - Aug 2022
      Graduate Engineer

I worked at Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure as a design civil engineer. During my time at Capita, I worked on moderate and substantial infrastructure projects such as Victoria Resignalling and HS2.On the Victoria Resignalling project my daily tasks included preparing and reviewing designers risk assessments and design drawings for new signalling assets in the south of London. I attended client meetings to discuss and understand key design queriers the clients had and how they can be solved with minimal cost and according to program. I also coordinated with temporary works contractors to discuss and review temporary works designs they have provided as part of my overall design. I frequently attended site and gave task/safety briefings to site operatives to ensure they were carrying out their job correctly and safely. My role working on HS2 was to carry out a CAT 3 check on a bridge structure in Old Oak Common station. I was tasked in checking design drawings sent by WSP to ensure the designs were buildable on site by the contractors. I also carried out structural design/analysis techniques according to Eurocodes to ensure the structure was fit for use. After being part of this project, I gained a fundamental understanding of structural analysis and computer modelling for structural engineering problems. Show less
