Current projects include:-The development of collaborative forest stewardship withing the ecologically important Rainbow Ridge viewshed, with habitat, water resources, and fire safety objectives as top priorities. -The development of a public forest management educational series. For 2012, the monthly workshop series began in May and finished in October addressing issues such as the Ecology of Fire, Defensible Space, Forest Management Practices, and others.Topics and presenters are being cultivated for 2013 workshops will begin within the first quarter of the new year. -Organization and development of the 2012 - 2016 Long Term Strategic Plan for the entire jurisdiction of the Shasta Valley RCD.       - Develop and run the My Southern Oregon Woodlands program, in partnership with the American Forest Foundation and the Oregon Forest Resources Institute. This program outreaches to under-engaged and unengaged forest landowners, to encourage on the ground forest management and fuels reduction by providing technical, educational, community and financial support. - Developed and implemented the Citizen's Fire Academy educational program, designed to help land owners and community members familiarize themselves with wildfire ecology and behavior, and best management practices to promote forest and property resilience. - Assist in developing, supporting and tracking Citizen's Fire Academy participant volunteer hours and accomplishments- Facilitate and lead the core Citizen's Fire Academy steering group to develop a comprehensive curriculum, allowing the program to be replicated throughout the state, the west coast, and potentially nationally- Work with local and statewide agencies to develop practical and useful coursework for small woodland owners throughout the Extension Office service area, to assist them in their management of forests- Develop and run monthly educational series on forestry and fire- Develop publications on fire preparedness and maintenance- Teach classes on small scale forestry, fire, and mapping where needed- Run the Student Watershed Assessment Teams (SWAT) with local high schools, utilizing student efforts to gather usable monitoring data for watershed groups.- Non-English outreach and education as needed https://tinyurl.com/23m5nkze Show less
