Working mostly on edge devices I have set up network management systems for Cable Modems, ADSL solutions, and Carrier Ethernet Service Delivery devices which involved detailed knowledge of the Nortel Passport/MERS 8600, ESU 1800 line, OME6500, and a working knowledge of optical transport systems that made up the core of customer networks. After starting in DMS tranlations at Nortel my career shifted more toward data networks and I began supporting and customizing the Metro Ethernet Manager solution that(for our largest customer) maintained backups, software delivery, service provisioning, and data integrity tools for 15K+ devices and 40K+ services. In this role I had many key responsibilities:- Day to day troubleshooting and maintenance- Assisting our design team with planning and scripts necessary for upgrading MEM- Assisting design with software problem resolution- Coordinating and carrying out upgrades with the customer- Interfacing with customer network engineers and architects for short and long term network plans- Developing training courses for end users of our software- Delivering training courses to anywhere from 2 to 30 end users at a time- Developing custom tools that maintained data integrity for our cutomers networks- Documenting processes for upgrades and custom softwareThese responsibilities required a significant amount of travel both inside the US and internationally as well. This involved working with a team of engineers to provide quality, accurate translations to switching locations that were converted to allow new dialing patterns. Show less
