  Our team embarked on a year-long exploration of traditional pastoralist practices in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh and how they have evolved with the mountain tourism economies.•Conducted secondary research to understand the practice of nomadic pastoralism in Bir, the challenges faced by the communitytoday, and acquire a working understanding of the Forest Rights Act in the region.•Conducted preliminary fieldwork in the region with the employer to familiarize ourselves with the landscape, the people, and the nature of the mountain economy.•Developed a set of research questions to prepare for the second field visit• Conducted in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders to acquire a holistic understanding of the problem• Analyzed the gathered qualitative data and contextualized it within secondary research• Organized a mixed media exhibition at Ashoka University to present our research findings, and encourage critical thought on the issue Show less
