  The Advise TX College Advising Corps seeks to increase the number of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented Texas high school students entering and completing postsecondary education. As part of the National College Advising Corps, Advise TX places college advisers in underserved high schools across Texas. The program strives to empower students by giving them the information, encouragement, and support they need to navigate the college admissions process.2012-2013 Work at Jones High School* Increased the total 4 year application rate at my high school from 62.8% (2012) to 96.8% (2013)* Conducted over 2,600 one-on-one college readiness consultations and 1,200 group meetings with parents and students of all high school grade levels* Increased early applicant rates by 32% from 2012 to 2013* Maintained a budget totaling $6,400 for supplies, programming, and field trips * Coordinated a week-long college-readiness program in 2012 and 2013 titled “Generation TX Week” involving over 500 students total* Enhanced the college-going culture at the high school and surrounding community by collaborating with teachers, counselors, administrators, college representatives, and fellow college advisers* Organized and planned a college fair for with over 25 recruiters visiting the campus and over 300 students and parents attending* Developed creative ways to implement an online college and career readiness solutions program that helps connect academic achievement to post-secondary goals, and improve college and career planning.
