      Employing a theoretical framework of cultural hegemony, and using both quantitative and qualitative methods, my PhD dissertation explored LGBT representation in mainstream American teen films released between 1995 and 2013. Examining LGBT characters and onscreen heterosexual responses revealed the uneven and contradictory nature of hegemonic negotiation that both included/domesticated certain aspects of the LGBT community and simultaneously maintained hegemonic heteronormativity.
