    • Burnside Roofing

      Jan 2012 - Feb 2014
      Subcontracted Roofer

Duties include carrying out all aspects of roofing works. I was involved in a wide spectrum of works including; tiling, slating, flat roofing, roughcasting, chimney restoration / demolition, installing roof vents, roof windows, fascias, soffits and guttering. Additional duties include erecting and dismantling scaffold, carrying out roof reports and talking through roofing defects with clients. I was also responsible for some of the office duties such as; applying for skip permits, building warrants, putting together risk assessments and method statements.I was involved in numerous re-roofing projects but one of the more notable projects was the re-roofing of a old slated farm out building. The roof was originally constructed using old Scottish single nailed slates laid in diminishing courses. The roof had fallen into a state of disrepair due to lack of maintenance. We restored the roof and stonework using traditional materials and working methods which gave a very satisfying end product. Show less

    • Annandale Roofing Ltd

      May 2013 - Feb 2014
      Director

I started up my own business alongside a time served roofer in May 2013. We carried out all aspects of roofing work and examples of our work can be found on the website www.annandaleroofing.co.uk. I designed and created all of the content for the website. I dealt with all the correspondence and was the first point of contact for customers on a day to day basis. I also assisted in the pricing of all the works and dealt directly with the suppliers. I therefor have a good knowledge of the finer workings of a business as well as the practical side of carrying out the works. We carried out a wide variety jobs from re-roofing garages and extensions to fitting sun tunnels and roof windows. I also went on various roofing courses to keep up to date with modern roofing techniques. Some of the courses included GRP and Firestone flat roofing. One of our more interesting jobs included the removal of a dilapidated roof from a factory building. This was so that the client could crane lift out a unique Crossley Brothers 56 ltr diesel engine to restore it back to its original condition. Show less

I also assisted in the running of the windows and doors contracts which included health & safety surveys, post inspections, updating records, following up on any snagging, going through customer satisfaction surveys etc. One of my favourite tasks was carrying out a survey to help out with the identification of non-traditional properties. To achieve this I was involved in site visits, researching property types, marking up plans and writing up reports. Show less
