      - Part of a team of young people planning and holding a concert to raise money for women in Daadab refugee camp in northern Kenya. Entailed creativity and enterprise as we were not an official company or group.- The concert was successfully held.

      - Conducted market research, mostly unsupervised, on bamboo in Kenya with the intention to introduce it to a group of women as a way of livelihood creation and environmental conservation. Read numerous related business, agricultural, technical and poverty analyses. Synthesised this into evidence-basedreports to inform the work of my supervisor. - Also performed GPS seedling tracking and photography. Worked for Kenyan and Norwegian NGOs and communicated between them.

      - Performed door-to-door fundraising around Norfolk, inspiring people to sign up to donate to charities- reaching no less than 150 doors per day. It entailed transparency, deep knowledge of the charity and perseverance to ensure that I gave out the right and necessary information in a comfortable manner at every door. Additionally, needed to be extremely empathetic and a good listener because asa representative of a cancer charity, people at the door would talk to me about their problems on these issues and I would listen and offer advice.- Successfully signed people up to Macmillan Cancer Support (the average sign-up in Home Fundraising lasts for 3 years). Additionally, able to provide advice to people dealing with cancer personally or in their family. Show less

      - Manned interactive booths showcasing UNEP’s activities at the first United Nations Environmental Assembly. Answered questions (on the booth, about UNEP and on the conference) from the range of 1200 delegates attending, which included representatives from governments, private sector, academia and civil society. The only undergraduate student amongst the volunteers. Had the unique opportunity to watch, learn from and examine the world’s forefront debates on the environment and the post-2015 development agenda. - Wrote articles on my experiences in the UNEA meetings on Poaching and The Green Economy.       - Played an active role in the planning and execution of all Homeboyz Foundation (a youth empowerment NGO) activities. This was a competitive post and I was the only undergraduate student chosen. Included: managing Facebook and Twitter accounts; writing articles, minutes and proposals; conducting research; coordinating and interacting with partner organisations; and generating new ideas for activities and programmes. Worked under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment whilst providing quality work. - Created a new partnership for the Foundation; identified a group of women that could benefit from a program that we were endorsing, cultivated this relationship and this group of women became the highest-ranking group using the endorsed program. - Gained insight into the practices of NGO’s operating in Kenya, including their challenges and how different groups (big and small NGO’s and the private sector) work together.       - Primary researcher for a project focused on scaling successful approaches to land restoration in dryland areas of Ethiopia. Searched worldwide academic and grey literature for studies showing the successes and failures of land restoration approaches. Systematically studied the efficacy of each intervention, writing analysedrecords of m y findings so as to advise my supervisor’s work with insightful summaries.- Required strategic thinking to search, assess and organise the large amount of information. It was a reflexive process of determining what information was needed against what sources were available. Studied common successes and failures of land restoration projects including ecological conditions, market and socio-economic factors, and governance systems. Lessons learned included gaps in knowledge and methods of evaluating projects. Mostly worked unsupervised. Show less

    • Knowledge Empowering Youth

      -Performed project operations needed to set up and renovate libraries for schools, prisons and refugee camps all around Kenya. Aided in the establishment and refurbishment of around a dozen libraries in diverse areas such as Kakuma Refugee Camp and Langata Women’s Prison. - Trained dozens of students and prisoners on using the libraries. During planning, we had to ensure that each library’s operations responded to the target group’s needs, resources, environments and previous systems. Additionally, practiced appropriately representing an organisation in how I handle myself on site and in how I interact with our target groups.- The team concurrently worked on different projects in assorted teams. This work involved complex, extensive inventories and numerous procedures. Required significant collaboration, perceptiveness, diligence and attention to detail. Personally took it upon myself to ensure that we were all following the right procedures, and corrected and assisted colleagues when I checked and found shortcomings. Show less

Several different types of content were successfully shared to and used by large or specialised audiences.- Our projects aimed to facilitate information-sharing whilst enhancing, maintaining and generating relationships with stakeholders. Liaised with leading organisations and their representatives, with my work being used by global experts on environmental governance. Worked closely with the team in development, implementation and logistic support for multiple stages of multipleprojects. Learned how to maintain a voice appropriate for intergovernmental organisations, to be heard by various stakeholders across the globe. - Conducted information and database management. Updated and grew the contact list by around 20%. Performed monitoring and evaluation; assisted in the formation and analysis of surveys. Show less

      - Researched, collated, developed and disseminated information on environmental governance, particularly environmental rights, to and with stakeholders from around the world (included civil society, governments, environmental treaties, businesses, intergovernmental organisations, academia, journalists). Contributed to UNEP and stakeholders’ education and capacity-building goals. - Informed the public and partner institutions across the globe on UNEP’s work on environmental rule of law. Was the point of contact between several organisations, people, and UNEP; this included responding to queries. Responsible for ensuring that the Law Division’s publications met UNEP standards as well as led their launches. Enhanced partnership, outreach and information-exchange between UNEP and relevant stakeholders- in line with global environmental and development goals.- Created solutions, initiated activities, advised on options, followed-up on processes and implemented decisions. This included graphic design, editing publications and turning information into various digestible formats such as visual presentations, interactive maps, stories, social media cards and webpages. My content has been read by tens of thousands of people across the globe- adding to UNEP’s public face.- Tracked several projects across different teams and organisations based in various parts of the world; safe-guarded goals whilst tackled emerging problems. Maintained contact with stakeholders and kept aware of news and developments; to ensure our work and our target groups are updated with appropriate information. Ultimately developed my organisation, research and monitoring skills.Developed my ability to adapt communication products to different audiences, needs and goals, against what is most appropriate, effective and feasible for my colleagues’ work. Gained insight into the structure, strategies and standards of intergovernmental organisations; as well as how to have and use their voices. Show less
