  My first job over seas. Working with Dyna Torque Bug & Band Systems. I also had an opportunity to take apart machinery and learn the mechanics of these systems. Being only a trainee at this point, I was actively trained in the dismantling and reinstatement of various machines used in there automated welding process. During my time at Kabil facility, Batam Indonesia I was involved with the running of welding procedures, monitoring & recording the welding parameters & also involved in the training & qualification of welders for offshore and onshore pipeline work.   Working directly for McDermott, then assigned to GE Vetco Grey working on the instillation of flexible risers which were being spooled onto the LV 102 and LV 105 which were moored at McDermott Batam. These were flexible installation risers for the Murphy Siakap project. My main roles were carrying out any coating repair work identified by me or any of the other project engineering team during the reeling of these risers onto the carousel.The repair activities carried out included using power tools, welding equipment and dye penetrant to ensure the repaired coating systems were sound. I went to Newcastle before hand to the GE wellstream flexible flow risers premises to be trained in the completion of the repair process & given an understanding of the philosophy why these repairs were necessary & the verification that all repair activities are certified /documented in line with project requirements.This role was one of the most challenging I have had to date which required on call 24/7 duties. Show less Onshore/ Offshore pipelay as projects depicted. Working with the vermaat Bug and Band pipe welder (JBBS) and McDermott's automatic pipe welder (JAWS) in the AWS workshop in Batam Island. I was tested and qualified to use the AWS welding systems, but never worked as a welder during my time with McDermott. As well as having an opportunity to learn the auto welding process, I also had the opportunity to learn about electrical troubleshooting, machining and welding fundamentals. As part of my overall training package, I was worked in unison with the quality control group in tracking pipe numbers, inspection of coatings, working with the pipe facing machines & and verifying all pipes entering the firing line were clean & if required any debris was blown out. As well as learning about the functionality of mechanical, electrical & instrumentation systems associated with these automatic systems, I was working in an environment where the following additional welding processes were being utilized such as SMAW, GTAW & FCAW. These processes were used for the fabrication of structures associated with pipeline installation such as A & R heads, pig launchers and receivers. Show less

  QA/QC Client Utilities Welding Inspector

  Mainly physical inspection works associated with structural steelwork. Namely completing plate surface visuals/verification of ndt clearance prior to releasing items for blasting and painting. Inspection of carbon steel piping spools for ndt clearance and internal cleanliness prior to their release for PWHT, ASRT ndt and subsequent blasting and painting prior to their installation onto the structures. Witnessing of PMI inspection on exotic materials, such as stainless steel & duplex as well as verification of weld metal Ni/ Cr/ Mo elements being in line with AEL and international standard requirements. Boroscope inspection of pipe spools to determine if there is any discoloration after welding in line with DNV-OS-F101 & verification that all purge dams and any other debris do not remain inside pipe spools prior to their instillation onto the modules. Witnessing chemical cleaning to remove discoloration on exotic pipe spools and hot oil flushing of seal gas and lube oil systems which are associated with the gas turbines and compressors. General inspection activities associated with painting, insulation, hydrotesting activities. Show less
