  I provided insight to domestic violence victims on the criminal justice system. I worked closely with those dealing with severe trauma to help them work through their emotions and make effective decisions in protecting themselves and their family. I acted as a liaison between victims, law enforcement, judges and attorneys. I helped explain and assist victims in filing for orders of protection and restraining orders. I ensured the victims were knowledgeable of their rights and were aware of appropriate resources to assist them as well as connecting them with resources for counseling, housing, rental, grocery, utility assistance or other needs. I provided supportive listening and guidance through the court process and helped set and maintain realistic expectations by effective communication.
