Manchester university nhs foundation trust
Jan 2019 - nowAs a Project Manager I support the establishment, operational management and long-term sustainability of the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Emergency and Acute Care - supporting the the centre in its mission to transform urgent and emergency care by developing and deploying new technologies for the detection, diagnosis and monitoring of disease. Working within the Innovation Team I help drive the delivery of the programme and associated projects arising across our clinical and methodological themes, whilst also developing and implementing processes and systems to manage project information and provide accurate and timely high-quality reports on project progress, and progress of the centre against its strategic aims and objectives - working with trust, clinical and academic colleagues to ensure successful delivery. Working with colleagues across the trust, and partners across the HealthTech sector I also help to identify new opportunities for innovations that may have the potential to bring benefit to the NHS, its patients, and the public. Show less As a Project Support Officer I provided comprehensive and high-quality administrative and project support to the Diagnostics and Technology Accelerator. This involved engaging with industry partners and developing collaborations with innovators, academics and clinicians across sectors to help find funding for, set-up and deliver high-quality research studies and evidence generation for innovative medical technologies and in-vitro diagnostics, and facilitate their adoption into the NHS.This involved providing support for multiple projects by using my time-management and organisational skills to deliver under pressure and meet tight deadlines. By utilising my excellent skills in written and verbal communication I was able to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the trust, as well as with key contacts in academia and industry. By collaborating well with industry I was also able to support upcoming projects, and horizon scan for new funding and innovation opportunities. My experience in project management allowed me to gain skills in monitoring and tracking the progress of projects against key performance indicators: working with multiple teams, senior managers and external stakeholders to ensure we achieve our key deliverables. This involved managing data, tracking key documentation, and ensuring we evaluate our successes and failures at key stages. To ensure success I analysed project progress and think logically and critically to resolve any issues. Through monitoring performance I am able to think strategically, and suggest proposed improvements and changes where necessary. When required I can report performance related data to key external stakeholders such as funders. Show less In this role I helped to provide comprehensive and efficient administrative support to the trust's research governance activities across Manchester Royal Infirmary and Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. In particular, I helped to maintain and update the trust's Live Portfolio Management System of research studies from study set-up, subsequent amendments, and end of study close down. As part of study set-up I registered studies onto the trust's database, before arranging, assessing and confirming the trust's Capacity and Capability to support each study. This involved liaising with the appropriate Research & Innovation Manager, research delivery team, and support departments; ensuring applications are valid with appropriate supporting documentation and regulatory approvals, and obtaining the appropriate reviews from finance and external bodies. Likewise, following study set-up I ensured records are up to date: that amendments have the relevant supporting documentation, and regulatory approvals, and that the trust has the capacity to facilitate such amendments. I also processed Annual Progress Reports, Urgent Safety Measures, study extensions, closures of studies to recruitment, and End of Study Notifications. The role also required me to administer that national Research Passport System for the trust. This entailed ensuring that researchers have the appropriate certifications and employment contracts to work at the trust, and advising applicants if any further documentation is needed before issuing an Honorary Research Contract or Letter of Access. In this role, I managed a high-volume of work by adhering to SOPs when it cane to updating electronic and paper records, prioritising work, and managing my time efficiently. By liaising with research staff both internally and externally I developed my oral and written communication skills, and knowledge of the bredth of research taking place across the NHS. Show less This role has helped me to develop my knowledge in healthcare science whilst furthering my professional experience in a laboratory setting. The role was based in the Central Specimen Reception at Manchester Royal Infirmary, and the Pathology Laboratory at Trafford General Hospital. These labs were responsible for the reception, sorting, storing, and pre-analytical and post-analytical processing of all specimens from the hospitals, and surrounding GPs. My main duties included: receiving deliveries of samples from couriers; forwarding samples onto external labs where appropriate; prioritising samples as urgent where appropriate; ensuring that patient details and listed tests are correct; centrifuging, chilling, freezing, incubating, aliquoting, archiving and disposing specimens as appropriate; operating, troubleshooting, and maintain electrical, mechanical, and automated lab apparatus; as well as assisting patients, and medical professionals with any lab-based enquiries over the phone, and in person.
