Proposed Meru Greenwood ParkProject description: The project was a mixed use development comprising of a shopping mall, office blocks and residential apartments.Location: Meru countyClient: Fusion Capital LtdPosition held: Design EngineerResponsibilities:• Data collection and analysisAs a graduate design engineer, I was involved in collection of the necessary for civil and structural works. This included mainly Traffic and Geotechnical data. For traffic studies 16hrs daily traffic counts were conducted for 5 days including a weekend day. This was done for both Motorized Traffic (MT) and Non-Motorized Traffic (NMT). The counts were conducted at 5 major junctions along the Nairobi Meru Highway. The data was analysed and used for Geometric and pavement design of the access roads to the proposed development.For geotechnical data, boreholes and borrow pits were done at selected points. Samples were taken and analysed by a geotechnical expert for purposes of design of structures and civil works.• Preliminary and detailed design of civil worksAs a graduate design engineer, I was involved in geometric and pavement design of the 2.2km access roads. I was also involved in design of parking areas and storm water drainage facilities.Geometric design was done using Autocad civil 3d software while design flow was calculated using the modified rational formula and sizing of drainage structures done by customized excel sheets.• Preparation of tender documentsI was involved in estimation of quantities and preparation of tender documents for civil works.2. Most of the sections were upgraded to have Service Roads, Cycle track & Footpath on both sides of MCW. Bridge Works involves construction of a 2-Span Rail over Bridge with reinforced concrete and piling works.
