My job as a student laboratory assistant entailed various laboratory and ad hoc tasks such as: - Isolation and purification of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (HPBMC) for use in flow cytometry analysis - Quality control of newly folded MHC-dextramers by flow cytometry - Diverse molecular and cell based assays (ELISA, SDS-PAGE, PCR and lipid loading assays) - Maintenance and development of a borrelia specific database - Preparation of buffers and chemical solutions used in the production and R&D departmentBesides my general tasks, I was responsible for training and supervision of new students within R&D.       21 months of independent laboratory research carried out at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and the Department of Biology under the supervision of Professor Søren Tvorup Christensen and Professor Lars Allan Larsen. Thesis title: “Characterization of a novel candidate gene, PLEKHA6, in congenital heart disease.” My MSc. project aimed to explore the role of PLEKHA6 during heart development using various cell and animal models. I primarily worked in the fields of developmental biology and cell biology.
