      2007 - 2012
Licenciate (5 years studies) Veterinary Medicine
    • Universidad de A Coruna, Faculty of Sciences

      2013 - 2014
Master's degree Molecular and Cellular Biology and Genetics

Focused on molecular and cellular techniques (cell culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, molecular markers, RT/q-PCR), human genetics, gene expression and regulation, cell signaling and cell therapy. I gained on-hands experience in flow cytometry, ISH, electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE, EMSA), Northern Blot, protein purification, etc

    • NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

      2015 - 2020
PhD, Marie Curie Fellow Molecular Biology and Genomics

My thesis goal was to sequence, assemle and annotate the first Atlantic sturgeon reference genome, perform transcriptome profiling of various tissues and identify gene markers involved in thermotolerance to improve conservation/restoration efforts. I applied bioinformatics tools and molecular and cellular techniques, such as cell culture, histology, DNA/RNA extraction, Illumina/ONT sequencing, genome and transcriptome assembly and annotation, RNAseq analysis and phylogenetic and synteny studies.

      2010 - 2011
Erasmus Program. Licenciate (5 years studies) Veterinary Medicine

In the frame of the Erasmus mobility program, I spent the 2010-2011 academic year of my Vet studies in Porto (Portugal).

      Feb 2013 - Aug 2014
      Research Scientist

During my time as research scientist I was a member of the Ethical Committee to evaluate animal experiments, supervised and mentored students, participated in educational projects and was actively involved in two main research lines focused on colorectal cancer and toxicology research. I was responsible for the cancel cell line and primary tumors maintenance, the development of zebrafish models for drug screening, and in the execution of in vivo assays, including HTS of small molecules and biodistribution analysis of PNP (polymeric nanoparticles) for drug-delivery purposes, using confocal microscopy, statistical and image analysis. As a result of this research, I authored a scientific publication and presented a poster at an international conference. Show less

      Sept 2014 - Mar 2018

My PhD research centered on the development of advanced genomic resources to enhance breeding strategies for endangered freshwater species. As a doctoral candidate within a SME, I also actively participated in company projects, which primarily focused on RNAseq and comprehensive genomics projects closely aligned with my research. My main responsibilities involved the design and execution of experiments and data analysis using available and in-house developed bioinformatics tools. In the lab, I master techniques such as cell culture, HTS of novel compounds, nucleic acid isolations, elecrophoresis, assay development, cloning, sequencing, image analysis and gene expression analysis (RNAseq, qPCR). Additionally, I was actively involved in the development and production of novel zebrafish disease models using CRISPR-Cas knock-down. Show less - In vivo zebrafish toxicity assays in wild-type, mutant and transgenic lines (high-throughput screening of small molecules and chemical libraries).- Image analysis (Image J, GraphPad, JMP)- Generation of knockout zebrafish lines (CRISPR/Cas9) and mutation genotyping.- Nucleic acid isolation.- Literature review, experimental design and data analysis.- Results reporting and discussion internally and in project meetings- Results dissemination through conferences (oral presentations and posters) and publication of scientific articles. Scientist & Bioinformatician

My main responsibilities involved the management of the NGS and bioinformatics projects, the development and expansion of the company pipeline and the adaptation of wet lab and bioinformatic pipelines to align with project-specific goals. These included projects such as genome and transcriptome sequencing, assembly and annotation (bacterial and eukaryotic), comparative genomics, RNAseq and SNP analysis for which we also developed and optimized long-read sequencing analysis pipelines (ONT and PacBio) Show less

      Scientist Capsid Development

As scientist in the Capsid Development team, I contribute to the development and characterization of novel rAAV capsids and technologies to advance our AAV-based gene therapy platform. I am responsible for innovation projects focused on engineering novel BBB-crossing AAV capsids, and my role includes the capsid design, procurement of resources and CROs, experiment design and planning, setting priorities and timelines, reporting and communicating the study results. From the perspective of a department focused on innovation, I have an helicopter view of the whole AAV capsid development field, including small-scale USP and DSP, QC, in vitro potency assay development, in vivo testing in mice and NHP studies and data analysis, focused on bioinformatics analysis. Additionally, my role involves providing scientific insights for IP filings, writing reports and presenting research findings internally and externally. Show less
