      Oct 2013 - Mar 2015
      Kitchen Assistant

I worked in this four star hotel on a voluntary basis and then later on was offered part time employment. One of the main skills I acquired through working in such a fast paced environment, was the ability to work under pressure. As well as this, I had to communicate with various members of staff in all departments of the hotel. As can be seen in the images below, I got the opportunity to cook with all kinds of ingredients, which broadened my knowledge of ingredient selection.

    • NHS

      Aug 2015 - Aug 2015
      Shadowed Dieticians

I wanted to gain more of an insight into the impact of the diet on our health, therefore I independently networked and planned my own work placement. I spent a few weeks shadowing various health advisors and dieticians in the NHS. I mostly sat in on weight management classes, as well as some physical activity sessions and helped out at an event the NHS Live Well programme was running. In these classes I got to learn how dieticians advised clients who were either overweight or diagnosed obese. This was a really interesting opportunity, which extended my knowledge of nutrition and public health, but mostly the influence of the food choices we make. Show less

Working at this food market has deepened my understanding for how organic and natural food has an impact on our health. Also, it gave me in an insight into how a food business runs, with regard to product specifications and the significance of allergens. One of the reasons I loved working here was that I got to interact with a variety of people, and on numerous occasions I was praised for my customer service skills.
