Parenting Children with Special Needs, PCWSN, is a local magazine that is published out of Kansas City bi monthly. I founded this publication in April of 2010 as a way to share my experiences while helping other parents. My inspiration was my son, Brayden and the spiritual leadership that was spoken to my heart. At the time I started this publication Brayden was a 3 year old boy waiting for a kidney transplant with chronic kidney failure because of a posterior urethral valve obstruction. Since birth and still his journey is inspiring giving me the ability to publish from the heart. The bi-monthly publication, Parenting Children with Special Needs features articles to help parents relate to the day-to-day life of raising and caring for a child(ren) with special needs. The magazine is distributed freely to over 460 locations across Kansas City with a print run of 50,000 copies! The magazine offers advertising as well, to local and national business who serve the community. Our readers depended on the articles and resources provided in this much needed magazine! Mar 2011 - now
      President

In 2011, I founded a 501(c) 3, non profit Charity, Parenting Children with Special Needs, Inc., (PCWSN) to help further the ability to make a difference for Kansas City families. This came to be after my husband and I wanted to give every penny that the magazine made to others and pay it forward to other families like ours facing unchangeable hardships, as so many had done for us. That is how PCWSN Charity started, because I knew there was more than just the magazine could give to help others and the community wanted to help pay it forward too!So again I searched for how and did it with lots of legal help and friends who started the board to make more magic possible for families beyond what any of us thought it could and would be today! Together we developed a simple mission to enhance the quality of lives of families who have a child with special needs within the Kansas City area. PCWSN provides these special families with funding, education and community outreach awareness.PCWSN provides funding to assist with individual family needs that meet our criteria for assistance and approved by an elected Board of Directors and Officers. We have assisted with individualized technology assistance, mobility assistance, home renovations to accommodate a child, wheelchair lifts, specialized medical equipment, travel for medical purposes, funeral assistance, education and therapy assistance, medical nutritional assistance, emergency utility assistance and more. Each grant application for assistance is looked at on an individual basis and not based on the income of the family. Most families are contacted and receive a phone interview as well to make sure we are assisting in the best way possible. The charity provides help where most no other organizations do not and provides for all children with any diagnosis as long as it helps truly enhance that child’s and families quality of life.
