      Adjunct professor of journalism

      Taught first-year graduate students in Jay Rosen’s Studio 20 program the history of innovation and disruption in journalism – a course I designed -- as a means of exploring the trade’s current crisis and preparing them to innovate and adapt as professionals. I also taught three sessions of Report NY, an intensive, six-week beginning-journalism course focused on covering the neighborhoods of New York City.

      As assistant professor, I teach introduction to media writing, entrepreneurial media, mobile and tablet journalism and new technologies in journalism, entrepreneurial journalism and effective editing. As chair, I am responsible for providing leadership to the department in the creation and implementation of its strategic academic mission, for meeting student needs, for mentoring faculty and staff and for managing internal affairs. I advocate for students and faculty, recruit students, represent department, school and university at outside events, and raise profiles of all through media appearances. I undertake strategic planning to strengthen department and major, coordinate regular assessments of programs, courses and faculty members. I manage faculty recruitment, retentions, review, reappointment, promotion, tenure and termination. I create and assign teaching schedules to meet student needs., and manage departmental budget.
