      Special Education Counselor- Supervisor

Special Education Counselor provides direct services to students who qualify for Special Education services in addition to evaluating for services, attending staffings, being part of the Behavior Support Team (BST), teacher consultation, group social skills and crisis intervention. Students must qualify for counseling through an evaluation process conducted by the ARD team, which consists of the special education counselor. Students who qualify meet the following criteria: the students have an Emotional Disturbance, on the Autism spectrum, OHI or Learning Disability. Students receive intensive counseling services on either a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or consult basis. Counseling services are developed based on the specific students needs identified through their counseling evaluation and Annual Review of Data (ARD). In session, students are working on goals that can encompass a variety of skills and needs. Studnets often need to learn coping skills, anger management, strategies to improve self-esteem, self-advocacy, social skills, interpersonal skills, etc. Crisis intervention can include, but not limited to suicidal risk assessments, threat assessments, referrals to community resources, parent contact and restorative practices and mediation.
