The Rural Skills Hub offers training grants, work placements, experience days, advice and other support for young people across the UK who want to start a career in traditional boundary crafts (dry stone walling and hedgelaying). Launching, promoting and managing the Rural Skills Hub. Offering advice on the ecological, landscape, practical, aesthetic, health and wellbeing benefits of maintaining traditional boundaries; the provision of training and assessment in dry stone walling and hedgerow management; and the availability of training grants and work placements, for those looking for a career in traditional rural skills. Co-ordinating community outreach activities which raise awareness of the importance of maintaining dry stone walls and hedgerows e.g. schools outreach, experience days for community groups, production of educational videos. Working with rural businesses and other organisations to support and promote apprenticeships and bursaries in rural skills. Establishing links with organisations researching the benefits of traditional boundaries to flood mitigation and reducing erosion. Advising and supporting project partners (Dry Stone Walling Association and the National Hedgelaying Society) in the delivery, maintenance and evaluation of the project.
