      For my Masters thesis, I co-authored a series of age-tailored self-help smoking cessation booklets. I evaluated these booklets through a randomized controlled trial on six campuses. Results were published in the Journal of American College Health (2009, 57, 4, 437-44).Over 15 years, 197,000+ print booklets were disseminated via peer-to-peer education and by health professionals on 44 post-secondary institutions across Ontario and in a variety of community settings.

      Health Promoter

      As a Health Promoter in the Substance Abuse and Injury Department, I was responsible for health and safety issues related to infants and children. I chaired the local Car Seat Safety Coalition, including representatives from private industry, community and government. I led the group to collectively identify goals and activities for Niagara parents. While in this position, I identified the need to update the evaluation tracking form and based on analysis, identified common installation errors. I devised a new pamphlet for parents to ensure correct installation of child safety seats, and partnered with local businesses to ensure its dissemination with the sale of seats. I applied for and received funding from 3 separate non-profit funders to conduct activities in child safety. Show less

      As a researcher for this study, I was involved in the design, data collection and analysis of qualitative data which aimed to synthesize (using a Delphi approach) the state of knowledge on approaches to smoking cessation for employed and un-employed young adults. Results were published in the American Journal of Public Health in 2007. As the Project Coordinator for this study, I was involved in the design, data collection, hiring/training research assistants, liaising with laboratories and analysis of data to present the results at International academic conferences.Results were published in 2009 in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
