  Risk Management Intern

  I had the opportunity to intern at Nedbank head offices in Sandton, working with the Risk Management team. During this role I learn a great deal about Risk Management and the risks that banks face and how the banks are able to control the risks. I worked with the data analyst team to see the programmes that the data analysts have used in order to monitor fraudulent activity and minimise the risk of terrorist financing as well as money laundering. I also worked with the project lead manager of the Process Engineers within the Compliance Programme. In this time I helped analyse and interpret requirements and clarify details with the stakeholders. The process engineers serve as intermediaries between the IT organisation and lines of business to align business requirements with IT capabilities. In these two weeks , I was able to meet many people from different sectors of the bank such as Corporate and Investment as well as wealth mangers which allowed for my knowledge to expand and learn more about the different sectors within Nedbank. This was an amazing opportunity which I am very grateful for as I was able to learn from the best and meet many different people within the Nedbank offices. This enabled by personal communication skills to enhance and increased my passion for working in a bank as prestigious as Nedbank. Show less

  During my internship at ABSA Bank Johannesburg I reviewed financial data and the daily stocks and markets as well as, analysed trends in the financial markets. I Used Bloomberg and the knowledge to understand stocks for traders whilst identifying key markers in investment and set strategies for maximum gains in various market conditions. Using bloomberg enhanced my knowledge and thus, I gained experience in using bloomberg tools such as : top new stories (TOP) and used Most Active Securities (MOST) to identify short term trends and investment opportunities.
